I thought that this movie was a fabulous representation of the book. I loved the "Special Features" section with the deleted scenes, how the original song was written, and the interview with the author.

This true story is a complicated tale of contradictions. I read the book years ago, and remember really liking it. I have never been a big fan of Woody Harrelson, but he played this part so well. His character made me so angry. Because…

This is one of the most depressing movies I have ever watched, plus the sad ending. A waste of two hours.

An idealized, fragmented adaptation of the excellent memoir by Jeannette Walls. The movie does not have the same effect as the book does. The child actors are very good. Not a bad movie on its own but I am glad I read the book.

The movie followed the book pretty well. Problem was they tried to make the Mom an angel and she was just as to blame as the drunk father.

The book is infinitely better.

I hadn't heard anything about this movie before watching (or the book). Really powerful acting performances by all - especially Woody Harrelson (I don't think anyone else could have pulled this off). Fascinating, warm, funny, then…

I liked this biography DVD. Chronicling the adventures of an eccentric, resilient and tight-knit family. A remarkable story of unconditional love. A young woman who, influenced by the joyfully wild nature of her deeply dysfunctional…

Looked like a good move - Woody Harrelson is one of the best - could not get it to play on two different systems Think the library needs to sort this out -

Not as good as the book; they left out almost everything from the first half of the book, I guess because those things happened in the western states. (WV must have been the main attraction in the movie because it's the stereotypical image…

Difficult to believe this is a true story, but it was. It's amazing that the children made it out with normal lives of their own. Woody H was great in this role. Jennifer Lawrence was originally cast to play the mother, but backed out.

Wonderful performance by Woody Harrelson. The think the role of the mother could have been better cast. I was surprised how well the book was transformed into the movie.

Emotional, deep, full circle as she understands, holds on to, discards, reflects sad, painful, happy memories of her Father and family childhood till she leaves for college. This family painfully poor and dysfunctional drew a few tears…

This movie is based on the original memoir by the same name, written by Jeannette Walls. Jeannette lived a turbulent life, growing up under the poverty line with a bipolar mother and an alcoholic father, who could never quite hold down a…

Lots of difference between the book and the movie. Harellson was perfect for the part.. Father was a drunken monster. Dept of Family services should have placed those kids in foster care and charged the parents with child abuse.

This hauntingly true story of Jeannette Walls and her migrating family has the ability to make the viewer, laugh, cry, and think about the condition of human life and family. Based on Walls' bestselling memoir, she manages to overcome her…

After watching the trailer I expected this to be a different story, but I believe this is another "Captain fantastic". I hated "Captain fantastic" and I hated this movie too, therefore I could not finish it. The parenting style was just…

At times the film makers made light of the helpless children’s ordeals, but overall, a nauseating story about growing up with “irresponsible” parents in poverty. Further, felt for the adult daughter who must have been in constant social…

The book stayed on the NY Times best sellers list for a reason. Family dysfunction and alcoholism in American families is common. Add poverty and sexual abuse----the result is quite ugly. I think that what resonated among readers was that…
