I remember reading this book for the first time in the 8th grade - I can still picture where it was shelved in the Jr. High library. It was a game changer. I was bored by Nancy Drew because I thought the mysteries were too conveniently solved, but this THIS was a mystery that kept its surprise to the very end! I feel like _I Am The Cheese_ is ready for a comeback. The OG of twist endings. So many great books with surprising twists and unreliable narrators are chocking the best seller lists, and I wonder how many of those authors discovered this book in their middle school library? I think this one and another fantastic mystery, _We Were Liars_ by E. Lockhart, would make an interesting pairing for a book club - at any age.
