A Capitalism for the People

Recapturing the Lost Genius of American Prosperity

This is an excellent commentary on the current situation of the American economy and of the problems arising from what the author calls “crony capitalism.” What he describes could as well be termed “crony statism,” since most of the ills are either caused by, or at least have the involvement of, poorly conceived and executed public policy. The author sees the main hope for the economy's extricating itself from the complications that now prevent it from achieving the level of performance that it ought to have as being the free working of markets. That does not necessarily mean, as indicated in his table of contents, that government must retreat to a position where business has free reign, but that a reasonable balance needs to be struck so that businesses have the incentive to strive for greater productivity within reasonable social bounds.
