Yeah! Gotta love that "Big Band" jazz from the 1930s and 40s.
Born in Chicago (into poverty) - (May 30, 1909) - Benjamin David "Benny" Goodman (known as the "King of Swing") was a first-rate, American jazz and swing musician, clarinetist and bandleader.
In the mid-1930s - Goodman led one of the most popular musical groups in America. Goodman's bands launched the careers of many major jazz artists. During an era of racial segregation he led one of the first well-known integrated jazz groups. Goodman performed nearly to the end of his life, while exploring an interest in classical music.
This Benny Goodman CD contains 22 tracks in all which were recorded by Goodman and his orchestra between the years of 1927-1949. Three of my favourites are - King Porter Stomp, Body & Soul, and Sing Sing Sing.....(*Watch "Swing Time" music-video*)
*Note* - On June 13, 1986 - Benny Goodman (77 at the time) died from a heart attack.
