I think my favorite scene was when the ladies at the hair salon became a Greek chorus, echoing Jamela crying, "You can't eat friends." So true. Even when your friend is a chicken.

Fun story about a South African girl who falls in love with the chicken intended to feed her family on Christmas day. My third grader loved this book.
