Rejuvenated and focused, Coltrane heaves a path to glory on this date. "Smokestack" is a great blowing song that he reprises later with Johnny Griffin.
My favorites were tracks 1(and 6, another take of the same song), 2, and a romping and energetic 3.
While it's great to listen to anytime, this album has been very helpful to me when I've wanted to have instrumental music in the background while working on a project. Vocals are often too distracting when I'm writing or reading, but Blue Train helps to keep me alert and focused. Try it!
Quintessential Coltrane. Philly Joe Jones (drums), Paul chambers (bass), Lee Morgan (trumpet), Curtis Fuller (trombone), and Kenny Drew (piano) help him out.
Classic Coltrane! Especially the title track!
