4 stars. Nicholas Sparks writes heartwarming stories and this was no exception. Jeremy Marsh is writer for scientific magazines and is happy in his life in New York City. After a failed marriage, he has no plans to ever marry again or become a parent. Until he meets Lexie, a beautiful librarian who lives in Boone Creek, North Carolina. Soon, Jeremy has left New York and begun a new life in Boone Creek and Lexie is expecting his baby. So much has changed in his life and while they are planning a wedding and fixing up a house, Jeremy develops severe writer's block. Problems develop in the pregnancy with a condition called an amniotic band that could harm the baby. They have much to concern them. But the trials and tragedy and challenges also bring the deepest love. A very good read.

I had read elsewhere that Sparks is known for his sad/tragic endings, and this certainly follows that pattern. It just makes Sparks a master at manipulating people’s emotions, not a good writer. I was also fed up with all of Sparks’s “Men are from Mars/Women Are from Venus” ‘advice’. The plot twist with Alvin was ridiculous. I found it hard enough to like the guy in book 1, but in this book his character goes off the deep end. Jeremy considers him his best friend?? It’s so contrived it’s laughable.

One of my favorite novels by Nicholas sparks. I love the small town in which this is set, I feel like I’ve lived there.

This is a novel that can make anyone cry, including those who dont usually tear up. I recommend this book to anyone who has read any of Nicholas' other books.

Tear jerker as only Nicholas Sparks does. Read the book first
and then see the movie. One of my all time favorites.

Typical Sparks novel, where he has to have you in tears at the end of the book. I felt that my emotions were manipulated.

Nothing will ever match The Notebook. This was good, not great. I'd call it a typical Sparks novel. Good for a light, summer read.
