Have you ever heard about the one who got away? Jangles is known as the biggest, baddest, hardest-to-catch fish. One clever boy sets out to catch Jangles, but he finds out that the fish has a plan of its own! David Shannon’s richly detailed oil paintings are perfect for this timeless tall tale. You’ll be hooked!

My favourite part was when the man fell out of the boat.
Jangles was my favourite character after the fishermen were coming.

"The legendary trout who stars in this tall tale has broken so many fishing lines that his enormous jaw is full of hooks and lures that clink and clatter as he swims, earning him the name Jangles. One time, when he was a kid, the narrator's father hooked Jangles - and Jangles swallowed his lure, pulled him from his boat, and took him to a deep-underwater cave to tell him stories of days gone by. Subtly fantastical, exaggerated in the classic style of yarns about "the one that got away," and illustrated in dark, occasionally creepy paintings with dramatically varied perspectives, this is one exciting fish tale!" This is a great tall tale with wonderful illustrations. The idea of the storyteller and the story being the same is very interesting. 5+
