"With the unexpected death of Russian President Aleksandr Luganov, and Iran's efforts to acquire fully operational nuclear warheads successfully thwarted, American President Andrew Clarke decides the moment has come to unveil his comprehensive proposal to achieve peace between Israel and the Palestinians. However, when a series of senior American officials involved in the peace process are assassinated, Clarke orders Marcus Ryker and a team of CIA operatives to hunt down those responsible and bring the killing spree to an end. What Ryker uncovers is a chilling plot to kill the American president himself, but at first, it's unclear who is the driving force behind the plot. Is it the Russians, seeking payback for the assassination of Luganov? Is it the Iranians, in retaliation for the American operation to keep Tehran from acquiring nukes? Or is it another conspirator altogether, someone plotting to strike a blow against American hegemony in the Middle East and seize the leadership of the entire Sunni Muslim world? By the time Ryker and his team fully understand the plot and who's behind it, they find they have less than 96 hours to disrupt a terrible evil that has been set in motion"-- Provided by publisher.

The third book in the Marcus Ryker series, the Jerusalem Assassin was a great read. The plot is relatively simple, a peace conference between the US, Israel and Saudi Arabia is threatened by terrorists and Marcus has to prevent a triple assassination. This continues on from the previous two books (The Kremlin Conspiracy and The Persian Gamble) but without needed to resolve a cliffhanger like the previous book did. It's fast-paced and highly engaging. I'd say that while the previous books make the series better, this could technically be read as a stand alone. Also, the Christian elements are toned down a bit in this book, which while not an issue for me may come as a relief to some readers. The last third of the book (labeled as Part Four) is intense and I couldn't put it down despite this forceing me to keep reading until 11:30 at night. If you like political thrillers, then this may be for you. I'd still recommend the previous installments though to get the most out of the characters.

The President wants to unveil his Mideast peace initiative in a speech in Jerusalem. But the mysterious agents of Kairos want him dead along with the Israeli prime minister. He reluctantly agrees to present his speech from the Oval Office. But the Saudi king has decided to work for peace in the area, so off to Jerusalem the President goes to meet with him and the prime minister on the Temple Mount. Meanwhile, a surgeon is implanting a bomb in the body of a fervent believer so that he can blow up all three men.

This book is more about the backstage efforts to keep world leaders safe and the efforts of others to kill them than it is about the world leaders themselves. It is riveting.
