Dude, they should've called this "Fast and the Furious" because there's lost of "fast" driving and you'll be "furious" you wasted your time watching this. Just kidding, it's a decent trashy big budget movie. Let me take you back to 1990 when pretty much every Tom Cruise movie used the "Top Gun" formula: hot shot who is really good at something, but also arrogant, wise mentor figure, strong woman who helps him, and a friend who either dies or gets sick. All help him become less of a jerk, but he's still a jerk. "Cocktail" took this formula to the high-stakes world of bartending, while "DOT" takes it to the race track, and "Far and Away" takes it to Ireland (sorta). Cruise should've played a character named Cruise, but he's Cole Trickle and he drives really fast. He met Nicole Kidman on this movie. Robert Duvall is the mentor, Michael Rooker is the friend turned rival, Cary Elwes is the evil driver. The best part is when they drive, the worst part is everything else. Directed by Tony Scott, who also worked with Cruise in "Top Gun" and also did "True Romance," "Crimson Tide" and like 6 movies with Denzel Washington. Very much of its time.
