Was a really good movie AND true. Since it is based on a true story, it makes it even more meaningful. Could not keep the tears from flowing. Good images of kids who come from hard places. All the hurt is covered up with anger. This girl was fortunate to find her father was also a victim.

You can't watch this movie without feeling something. My face would grow warm from the tears I was trying to fight back. So, make sure you have a box of facial tissues on hand before watching "Gimme Shelter." And even though this is based on a true story, it made me think of another movie, "Precious," which had emotional performances by the actors.

This was an amazing performance by Vanessa Hudgens. This movie really stirred me as I realized how truly divided we are in this current society. Totally an eye-opener! The DVD is family approved for ages 12 and up.

Very touching movie about a real-life shelter for young pregnant women. Great performances by Rosario Dawson and James Earl Jones - the latter donated his salary to the shelter depicted in the film

Very realistic, But depressing

Touching film with a feel good ending. Rosario Dawson gives an awesome performance as Apple's mom. Based on a true story, so presuming the account is semi-accurate, it's nice to know there are still some good people in the world.

I have worked with foster children and their parents, as well as at a homeless shelter. This is very realistic!

I loved this film until the end which seemed odd and inconsistent. Despite this, it's definitely worth watching.

Having been a pregnant teen myself, I guess this movie was more real for me than for others who have reviewed. I was much more fortunate than the girls in the movie--but my life could have easily been as tragic. I am not a "mushy" person, but the conclusion of the movie brought me to tears.

There are some problems with the scrip, like all the adults in her life are self-absorbed, selfish jerks--but that is what happens when you are working with a true story and trying to stay true. What is especially meaningful is that although there is a Cinderella ending offered, the girl chooses love over money. Pretty wise and mature choice for a 16 year old.

Father Frank McCarthy:[to Apple] "Never apologize for your true feelings."

Agnes "Apple" Bailey:[slams Tom's letter down on the dinner table] "When I was eight, I was taken away from my mother when she was arrested for drugs. ...By the time I was twelve, I was in my tenth foster home. Seemed like good people this time...until the husband would come into my room at night, and start touching me and feeling all up on me. I told my case worker, and she got the police involved. He told them that I was making it all up because 'that's what troubled kids do'...and they believed him. I was too scared to even open up my own mouth. I ran away. I went to find my mother and try to stay with her for awhile. Things got real bad and I had to go. In all that time...that letter was the only thing I ever got from you. Now, I'm just asking you for a little time...because I'm done being passed off as someone's case number. I want out of the system!"
