Summary
Add a SummaryNo one expected Mr. Tiger to be such a troublemaker. At first he was like everyone else. Sporting starched collars and silk top hats. Attending dignified tea parties and engaging in the usual chitchat about the weather that day. But Mr. Tiger is bored. “He wanted to loosen up. He wanted to have fun. He wanted to be… wild.” But wildness is not tolerated in the city, a fact Mr. Tiger discovers when his explorations into wildness involve pouncing across the rooftops, roaring in public, and going au naturel. It’s that final sin that has him dismissed from the city to the wilderness, where he gets to completely let go. It’s great for a time, but soon Mr. Tiger misses his friends and his home. When he returns he finds more comfortable clothes and the fact that the people there have loosened up a bit themselves, thanks in no small part to his influence.

Mr. Tiger’s journey teaches us that it’s okay to let loos every once and a while, and to be who we are even if it’s hard. For younger readers this book can also be used as an introduction to identifying animals, even if they have fancy hats on!
Brown's use of color and design allow the pictures to tell the story just as much as his sparse use of words. This is a wonderful little story with a great message, especially for younger grade school children.
Fantastic Book! Both of my boys (2 and 4) love this book. Beautiful illustrations and great story. It's definitely one of my favorites to read over and over.
My kid loves this book and he can't even read! Great illustrations. Meow! Or whatever noise tigers make. Roar?
Everyone is fine with the way things are, normal and good. They are all happy animals. Everyone except Mr. Tiger… Mr. Tiger wants things to change. He wants to act wild! So everyday he acts a little more wild. Starting with dropping on four paws. Then jumping and running around and finally ROARING! His friends lost patience so off went Mr. Tiger into the wilderness. Soon Mr. Tiger got lonely. He missed his friends, the city and his home. So he went back and saw that things were beginning to change. Soon everyone went to the wild and lived peacefully and content.
The images were great! The writing style was cute and created lots of suspense. This book shows that everyone should be wild and live their lives for once. Be wild! We all need to have fun in our lives every once in a while.
The book is short on dialogue but extensive in its beautiful artistry. Mr. Tiger's fur offers a spark of color rebelling against the drab grays of the civilized world. His orange word bubbles leap from the page. Even the choice of lettering and paper is deliberate.
A beautiful picture book that teaches kids that it is ok to just be yourself.

Uptight society is in for a change when Mr. Tiger goes back to his jungle instincts. It’s Wilderness VS. City. What will win?
I am not too proud to admit I read this book exclusively to see jungle animals wearing top hats!
We’ve not many books that touch on the importance of balance in your life, but let me just say that the lesson Mr. Tiger learns here would probably be greatly appreciated by large swaths of the adult population. Kiddos aren’t the only ones that chafe under their proverbial starched collars. A grand, great book with a lot of very smart things to say. Listen up.
