Add a CommentThis is a delightful, charming and funny story! This book, a Caldecott Honor book, was published in 1975, and it has become a beloved picture book classic. Strega Nona is a wise older woman who used her magic to help the people in her village. When Strega Nona goes away on a visit, her foolish assistant, Big Anthony, decides to use her magic pasta pot to cook some pasta for himself. What could go wrong? Everything! The illustrations are charming and funny. The story is hilarious and also has a good gentle lesson. There are many other wonderful Strega Nona stories as well. Thank you, Tomie DePaola, for sharing so many lovely stories with us.
Very good story
All 3 of my children loved this story and my 8 year old has not yet completely tired of it. Like many folk/fairy tales it has a lesson to impart. Tomi DePaola's illustrations add to the easy to read text. It is a great little read to share with your children from age 3 to 6 (or older if it becomes a great favourite).
A really cute story about magic and the power of love (not just the sappy power of love, but as the secret ingredient in making lotions and potions...and good pasta!)
