Agathe von Trapp, the oldest daughter in the Trapp Family Singers, offers readers the real story behind an American classic in her poignant and fascinating autobiography Memories Before and After The Sound of Music. The courageous family and events immortalized in the beloved Broadway musical and hit Hollywood film come vibrantly alive in these pages, and Agathe's post-Sound of Music life is equally compelling.

As a fan of 'The Sound of Music' movie, I was really curious about this book. It did not disappoint. I enjoyed the easy and warm writing style of Agathe von Trapp, the eldest girl of the Trapp family. Her retells of the many journeys and experiences of the family are fascinating, and her recollections of the events and details are very impressive. The reader really gets a sense of the family's strong bond, work ethic and sense of community. I especially liked reading the very last section where Agathe explains what happened to the rest of her siblings. If you like biographies and memoirs (and the Sound of Music), I highly recommend this book!

The grandchildren are pretty good singers as well. They were very popular a few years ago.

My mom still loves to read, but as she is well into her 80's we now read aloud together. This book worked well, for interest and familiarity.
