A scarred recluse, Jagr makes no secret of his disdain for others' company. But now, as a member of Chicago's powerful vampire clan, he has certain obligations to fulfill. The latest: track down a missing were pureblood and return her to her sister. The problem: Regan Garrett has no intention of complying.
This is the story of Jagr and Regan and is the fifth installment in Guardians of Eternity a lightly erotic modern paranormal romance series that suffers the annoying trapping of relying on the destined mating connections as the glue to the various plots. The plot is ok compared to the others. Similar to Embrace the Darkness, the protagonists have actually something in common so the chemistry is believable. They have both suffered physical torture so even Styx plainly admits to that being the reason he is sending Jagr to find Regan (his mate’s sister). I liked Jagr’s character! actually what confused me is how he was initially portrayed as this boorish homicidal vampire (yet a recluse scholar!) when he turns out to be quite patient, considerate, loyal, tender, enlightened and self controlling all considering. Regan’s character was ok but her backstory doesn’t make much sense especially her torture which is glossed over and is not exactly logical. If she was let out on those ‘healing’ sessions how is it she couldn’t escape?! Or at least yell for help?!!!!
We are supposed to swallow that she meekly lay there in front of crowds of people without opening her loud mouth to protest?!!! When did she ever shut up about anything?!!!!
But overall this is a much better written book than the previous ones with maybe the exception of Embrace the Darkness.
Book 5 of Eternal Guardians series, preceded by Darkness Revealed and followed by Beyond the Darkness. Sexy story of Regan, a pureblood were and Darcy's sister who was held captive by an imp for all her life and Jagr, a recluse vampire send in to find and protect her by Styx.
