"Jimmy Porter, an angry young man with a college education and a dead-end job. Feeling trapped by his circumstances, his squalid post-war flat, and spurred on by self-pity, Porter lashes out against his wife, Allison, his lover, Helena, and his business partner, Cliff. Fierce, funny, and cathartic, John Osborne's classic 'kitchen sink' drama as directed by Academy Award winner Judi Dench is a masterpiece of ensemble acting"--Container.

Watching this movie was like watching a Tennessee Williams play. The main character dominates the conversations with incessant chattering. I kept thinking that he needed Ritalin. It didn't make sense to me that two women were in love with him. Talk about dysfunctional. I didn't enjoy it.

A BBC television production of John Osborne's 1956 "angry young man" play which doesn't hit the high (and low) notes of the Richard Burton/Claire Bloom film despite the star power of Emma Thompson and Kenneth Branagh. The idea of an overly educated, underemployed graduate raging against an England which hasn't budged since the glory days of WWII certainly struck a chord back then but the "disaffected youth" angle may not resonate quite so deeply with contemporary North American audiences except maybe older boomers who can still recall the tumultuous '60s.

This was a recording of a TV production and that may be why the sound wasn't very good. Between that and the Brit accents, i yearned for subtitles or CC, neither of which were available.
