I thought it wasn't going to be that good. But they made it so that the movie followed the plot line of the book really good. I wish all books made into movies were like that! Really well done.

One of the more memorable book adaptations of the early 2000s, but overshadowed by Harry Potter. Holes is surprisingly faithful to the book and entertaining for invested and casual fans alike.

When books are turned into movies, it’s usually a complete hit, or a complete miss, and Holes was a complete hit. In this movie you see a very young Shia Labeouf accompanied by legendary actors Sigourney Weaver and Eartha Kitt. From the very start you are interested in the character of Stanley Yelnats and watch him deal with situations out of his element. All actors in the film have perfect chemistry and all fit together. Even the way this movie is shot is very interesting and shows both the beauty and dangers of the desert. From the cinematography to how true the movie stays to the book, you couldn’t ask for a better adaption. 4/5 stars

I liked almost nothing about this movie. Watched it as a preview before sharing with my grandchildren and very glad I did. I would not recommend it to anyone.

Holes is an entertaining family film with witty and charismatic scenes that make it such a fun watch! I loved the flashbacks that were incorporated throughout the movie because they gave more purpose to scenes. We also got to see Stanley’s (the main characters) story while in the present time as characters are discussing repercussions of his actions. The Disney film was directed by Andrew Davis and was released on April 11, 2003. I believe the movie is timeless because I still enjoy watching it almost two decades later! The cast includes young Shia LaBeouf as Stanley Yelnats, Khleo Thomas as Hector Zeroni, Tim Blake Nelson as Dr. Pendanski, Sigourney Weaver as Warden Walker, Siobhan Fallon Hogan as Stanley’s mom and Dulé Hill as Sam the Onion Man. I think the underrated cast made for a hit movie because they got to show their skill without being outshone by bigger actors. Holes was based off of the award winning novel with the same name that is also available at the Hamilton Public Library. In conclusion, I would rate the movie 4/5 stars because it’s not perfect, but I still enjoyed watching it and I will continue to!

Young Shia LeBeouf portrays a character, Stanley Yelnats, who is wrongly accused of stealing and gets sent away to a detention camp where he digs holes. Throughout this movie you learn more and more about each character’s story. This whole movie is very mysterious but also odd all at the same time. It’s an amazing back story to the movie and will leave you wanting to find the answer. Watching the relationships between all the kids at the camp is quite interesting as the story continuously gets better. All the different scenes in this movie are very interesting and you find yourself very invested throughout. Overall an amazing mystery movie and would recommend watching it. 4.5/5 stars

Holes, a simple enough sounding title to most, is a modern classic book turned into a great movie filled with good cheer, an interesting plot, dark meanings and an enjoyable experience for any who watches the film. This movie takes you on a long but enjoyable journey of an alleged juvenile offender who goes out to a work camp as punishment where he embarks on an adventure like none he’s even been on before. And this is a film which the entire family can enjoy, for it’s good humor and simple yet deep plot. Plus, you can take several good things away from this film. And that's why I think you should give this movie, or purhaps the book a try.
