As a Black female who has struggled to have a positive, loving relationship with my hair, I have not always been "happy to be nappy". This book was lots of fun to read, not only by myself, but also with others. The illustrations are beautiful, bold, and joyful. I smile thinking of the gift Bell Hooks has given us with this book. The gift and reminder that our hair is our crown and we should be "just all girl happy"!

This beautifully illustrated celebration of nappy-headed girls is just begging to be read aloud to a group. It also makes a great cuddle/laptime book for younger kids, although the cursive writing makes it difficult for some kids to read on their own. If you're planning a diversity themed program, this book, along with the DVD "Happy to Be Nappy and Other Stories of Me" make great selections.
